Define Every Off and Standby State

Document connected standby, disconnected standby, pause, display sleep, deep sleep, soft power-off, mechanical switch-off if present, charger-connected off, shipping mode, and pack-protection shutdown. State which functions remain active and how the user wakes the product.

The battery-runtime guide covers active playback conditions. Shelf discharge needs different evidence.

Measure Current Through the Transition

Use equipment capable of capturing the expected current range and short wake pulses without materially changing the circuit. Start from a defined battery state and product history. Record power-off action, transition time, steady state, periodic events, radio activity, indicators, button scans, and charger detection.

Confirm measurement setup with engineering. Inserting a meter, opening the enclosure, bypassing the pack, or powering from a bench supply can change sleep and protection behavior. Keep a diagram and photographs of the connection.

Separate Product Load from Pack Self-Discharge

Where safe and supported, compare product-plus-pack storage with controlled pack-only or component data. Review BMS quiescent current, cell self-discharge, protection state, pack firmware, temperature sensing, and connector leakage. Do not dismantle or modify lithium packs outside an approved laboratory process.

Combine Current Logging with Real Storage

Place production-intent units in final packaging at defined starting charge and storage conditions. Record pack lot, product lot, firmware, shutdown procedure, date, temperature history, inspection intervals, voltage or indicated state, wake result, and recharge behavior. Include logistics duration and buffer rather than testing only an ideal warehouse period.

Do not repeatedly wake the same sample without accounting for inspection energy. Use separate sample groups or a defined correction. Storage at elevated temperature can accelerate loss and aging, but the condition and interpretation must be approved for the product.

Verify Retail Wake and Recovery

Follow the printed setup instruction. Check button wake, long-press timing, charger wake, indicator behavior, minimum charger requirement, time before response, and recovery from pack protection. A product that recovers only with a factory fixture is not acceptable for normal retail stock unless the logistics process prevents that state.

The battery-powered warranty-risk article helps connect storage failures to returns, replacements, and customer support.

Establish a Shipment and Warehouse Plan

Define production charge window, final current or voltage check, shutdown or shipping-mode sequence, carton label where needed, storage temperature guidance, maximum planned interval, stock rotation, periodic sample check, recharge trigger, safe recharge procedure, and nonconforming-stock containment.

Any firmware, radio module, display, battery pack, BMS, charging circuit, switch, or indicator change can affect standby. Route it through the speaker change-request process and review cost, lead time, certification, packaging, freight, inventory, service, and warranty.

Shelf-Readiness Control Record

  • Connected, disconnected, sleep, soft-off, shipping, protection, and charger states are defined.
  • Current measurement captures transition, steady load, and periodic wake events.
  • Product, PCB, firmware, BMS, cell, temperature, and storage causes are separated.
  • Real packaged units use controlled starting charge, lot identity, shutdown, and temperature history.
  • Wake, charger recovery, indicators, timing, and printed instructions are verified by a new user.
  • Production charge window, final check, storage interval, stock rotation, and recharge trigger are approved.
  • Changes to firmware, module, display, pack, BMS, charging, switch, or indicators trigger retest.
  • Warehouse failures remain traceable to product lot, pack lot, shipment, and corrective action.
